I was born in Stafford, England in 1963 and educated at local primary and secondary schools.  I particularly enjoyed sport and  represented my school and home town at hockey and swimming.

My academic career commenced in 1981 and I have studied/undertaken research at the Universities of Wales (Swansea), Exeter, Durham and Strathclyde.

Initially, I worked as a geologist in the mining industry, both in the UK and Africa.  I later changed career direction and specialised in the Management of Technology. 

I have been interested in UK railways for 25 years and have an extensive collection of railway literature.  Some of my archive railway photographs are located on this web site.  I am still interested in sport and play squash, badminton, snooker and enjoy watching football and F1 motor racing.  Other interests include computing, music (blues,soul and R&B), and finance.
